Day Eight: Phoenix, AZ to Tonto National Forest, AZ

This morning, we left the Costco parking lot in mid-Phoenix and rode almost exactly 60 miles to the far end of Tonto National Forest. As Josh mentioned, Tonto National Forest has the fewest trees of any forest he’s ever seen! Once again, the bike paths and lanes running through Phoenix were phenomenal and we rode nearly 35 miles without once having to ride on a non-marked bike lane or path–and most were fully separated bike paths! Abi also had her second flat tire of the trip today, but managed to get it mostly changed before the tandem caught her on the uphill grade going into the national forest area. This, and a persistent squeaking sound on her bike, prompted her to make a post-ride trip to a local bike shop, Bicycle Haus, in Scottsdale, for some anti-squeaking maintenance and to purchase replacement tires and CO2 cartridges for future repairs.
