On the second day, we did laundry, ran errands, bought groceries, and then started riding in the afternoon. We only made it 16.5 miles before we hit (or were hit by) hail in Pine Valley, California. We took refuge in a gas station, where Abi bought some of their delicious handmade pizza, and we enjoyed watching the friendly proprietor interacting with his many customers. Snow chains and snow toys were all for sale–but no returns! I assume they don’t get a lot of snow and hail in Southern California! Josh picked us up from the gas station, and we returned to our campsite in Alpine.
